Xplore 70 by Nigel Irens

TRI 70-1000-547 - TYD sitoPower, comfort and Nigel Iren’s considerable experience for the new Xplore 70

Nigel Irens Design, the pen behind ocean-going multihulls of the likes of Idec, in which Francis Joyon set the solo round the world sailing record, has now produced an explorer yacht called the Xplore 70. The 70-metre will build at Constructions Mécaniques de Normandie and can accommodate 10 passengers and eight crew. On its deck is space for a mini-submarine and a six-metre tender amongst other things. Irens was flanked by his longtime collaborator Christophe Chedal-Anglay on the project and describes it thus:

“It’s a real ‘travel machine’ that combines all the necessary kit for exploring with roomy interiors and exteriors designed to allow the owner really enjoy the pleasure of long-range navigation”.

The Xplore 70 delivers on the performance front too: the maxi-tri clocks a top speed of 28 knots with a range of 4,000 to 5,000 miles at 18.
