Sunseeker’s first super yacht

Sunseeker followed up the unveiling of its first superyacht design at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show with the news at the 2019 edition that a letter of intent had been signed to build hull number 1 of the Sunseeker 161, hailing the British yard’s debut at the very top of the luxury yachting world.

Stretching 49 metres in length, the 161 will be both Sunseeker’s first superyacht and its first aluminium construction. For the latter, it has partnered with Icon Yachts of Holland, one of the world’s leading metal-build yards.

The innovative Sunseeker 161 will bring an extra competitive edge to the market as its FDHF (Fast Displacement Hull Form), designed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects (VONA), has been declared the world’s most efficient after tank-testing at the Wolfson Unit in Southampton.

In practical terms, this means that despite its relatively modest engine set-up, the Sunseeker 161 will outperform its competitors as well as lowering both its fuel consumption and environmental impact.

The FDHF also guarantees superior manoeuvrability and seakeeping thanks to significant roll reduction.  Stylistically, the 161 is very much a Sunseeker and will have interiors bespoke-designed by Design Unlimited for each client. The layouts available offer five or six cabins, a stunning infinity pool aft and a breath-taking beach club.

Delivery is scheduled for September 2022 so maybe we will be seeing it at that year’s Monaco Show!
